Sachs is so versatile and so well researched that it has a vehicle shock absorber for every type of vehicle. 

They range from monotube and twin tube dampers, suspension struts and shock absorbers with spring plate (called spring carriers), and also car shocks with hydraulic leveling system (called suspension cylinders). 

A special highlight of Sachs products is the lightweight aluminum shock absorber. It allows you to enjoy the benefits of many light but durable design measures. 

Its reservoir tube has a variable wall thickness which ensures extra strength when high loads suddenly are carried onto your car. Its other parts are intelligently designed to be as thin as possible in order to minimize its weight load. 

This miracle aluminum shocks’ volume production is a highly advanced and complex procedure that produces the various wall thickness for different scenarios. It involves 17 well coordinated steps to achieve the lightweight but highly versatile feature. Similarly, in the production of Sachs suspension struts, the same procedure is employed. 



It can be installed in any position. It performs at a higher pressure when compared to the twin tube damper. You can benefit from this feature because this makes the lamellar valves in the piston very responsive. It also prevents the build up of foaming or bubble formation on the hydraulic oil. 

Monotube is a gas filled damper wherein the working cylinder is filled up with gas and oil, at a relatively high pressure of 25 to 30 bar. The presence of the floating separating piston ensures absolutely zero leak proof separation between the gas and the oil.

During the Compression Stage, car vibrations push the shock absorber together. The piston valve inside will provide the needed resistance against the oil which will inevitably flow up from the cavity below the piston. This will slow down the downstroke. The gas cushion will then compress volume of the retracting piston rod. 

In the Rebound Stage, automobile vibrations will pull the shock absorber apart. The piston valve inside, this time, will be resisting against the oil that flows down from the cavity which is above the piston. This will slow down the upstroke. The gas cushion will then expand commensurate to the volume of the extending piston rod. 


It has 2 oil filled cavities – first, the working cavity where the piston and piston rod move, and second, the compensating cavity. 

The compensating cavity is found between the working cylinder and the reservoir tube. It is filled 2/3 with oil and 1/3 with either air or gas. This results in the twin tube damper having a shorter installation length compared to the monotube counterpart. 

The damping force that the twin tube damper executes adjusts for each vehicle type that it is installed into – depending on the auto weight, axle design and the suspension springs. 

During the Compression Stage, vibrations in the car will push the shock absorber together. And the bottom valve will determine the damping. The oil that is displaced by the retracting piston rod will flow into the compensating cavity. It is here where the bottom valve resists the flow and effectively slows down the stroke. The piston valve will then be open and it will function as a non return valve. 

During the Rebound Stage, car vibrations will pull the shock absorber apart, with the bottom valve determining how the damping will be executed. The piston valve inside will then provide resistance against the oil that will flow down from the cavity above the piston. This will slow down the upstroke. Through the open non return valve at the bottom valve, the oil that is needed back in the working cavity will flow out of the compensating cavity without any obstruction.
